A poignant story from Sarat Chandra which entails child marriage vows broken off in adulthood due to land disuptes leaving kusum(Hema Malini) heart broken .Still she considers Brindavan(Jeetendra) as her husband .Brindavan, unknown to this , was married but now a widower with a child ,Charan. He is a doctor and is summoned to kusum's village to treat someone where he meets her and finds out about her .She ,still unmarried ,knows about his infidelity but forgives him on knowing the truth of his previous marriage.
During this time,plague breaks out in Brindavan's village and he leaves charan with kusum.The child-mother bond develops.Finally when brindavan leaves with charan, he takes kusum with him as his wife.
The movie is a delight to watch for the small moments of the mother-child relationship ,the superb screenplay with some touching moments and finally the music of RD Burman with songs like "ghar jayegi tar jayegi.." and the beautiful composition "O Majhi Re.."
